My history with photography
I discovered the joys of photography when I was 19 years old living in the Czech Republic. I bought my first digital camera, a Minolta Z1. It was a wonderful camera that really did a good job of sparking my interest in photography. After reading the manual about all the functions of the camera I was inspired to try out a long exposure and came up with this:
I know the image itself isn't very good, but something about it captured my imagination about how a camera works and how a picture can tell a story.
I spent the next few years taking pictures and enjoying it, but I described myself as someone who, "knows what pictures [they] like, but doesn't know why [they] like them." after a few years I met my good friend Jason who was an avid photographer and I really liked his work. I didn't however say much about photography until it was about time for both of us to move from Georgia. He took me out in Atlanta one Sunday to shoot together (he with his d200 and my still with my trusty z1.) He was good enough to let me play with his camera a bit and I knew that I needed to upgrade my equipment if I was going to be serious. I moved back to Texas and enrolled in a photography class at the local community college. I dug out my father's old Nikon F mount from the 60s to use in class and became hooked. I took several film classes and my abilities grew greatly. I was advised to consider photography as a major by the head of the photo department. They even offered me a job on the school paper.
While this was happening I got my d80 and have been taking pictures ever since (although the time I have to take and edit pictures has been cut greatly in the past year or so. I have done many couple's portraits and a few individuals. I avoid group portraits if I can. My real love is still time lapse and macro photography.
